Fes

The blues of Chefchaouen have given way to the taupe, sand and toffee colours of Fez.
Took a grand taxi to town and checked into Riad Jean-Claude. A lovely oasis just outside of the medina.
In it's typical fashion the world revealed itself to be a small place. Within an hour of arriving we ran into Philippe, a friend I hadn't seen in 15 years. Turns out he lives directly behind the Riad.
La Famille arrived the following day and we have had a great time exploring the souk. It is de rigeur to get lost which we did on a number of occasions looking for Jearld Moldenhauer's House of the Falcon (Dar Balmira). Jearld entertained us with gossipy gay history tidbits over an amazing lunch in the aviary on the roof.

                                                                  The water clock
Chez Jearld, aka Dar Balmira, home of 100 birds, a cat, a chicken, 4 turtles. Probably more.

  1. thanks, Stephen, for all the great pics! (love the one of Johnny getting his hair cut while watching an action movie) - also love the video of the narrow alleyway / walkway and the market. Keep safe, have fun and keep posting! xo Bird
